CCEN 448 · LAB EXERCISE 5

From objects to a website.

Amazon S3 stores files as objects. Static website hosting maps browser requests to those objects.

Deployment checklist

  1. Create the lab bucket with the specified name and region.
  2. Upload index.html at the bucket root while preserving folders.
  3. Apply the lab-required public-read configuration only to public website assets.
  4. Enable static website hosting and select index.html as the index document.
  5. Test the homepage and nested page links through the website endpoint.

Understand the boundary

S3 does not execute server-side code. A dynamic application needs a separate backend. Public website files must never include credentials or private data.
